Before you even think replacing your old gutters and installing new ones, these are the Top 3 things you must know.

1. The importance of having a reliable and properly functioning gutter system, as well as the consequences for the failure to do so.

2. What price range to budget for (you really do get what you pay for).

3. Cost breakdown

1. The importance of a having reliable gutter system

Gutters protect your home against flooding, as well as protect the roof, siding, foundation, and landscape of your home. Failure to have an effectively functioning system may result in erosion to the foundation of your home, roof rot, mold in or on the exterior of your home, and basement leaks or flooding. If your gut is telling you it's time to replace your gutters, you're probably right.

An evaluation by a trained eye of a gutter professional will quickly be able to tell you if your gutters are salvageable. Like Colorado Gutter Company, most gutter companies offer free estimates anyways, so it never hurts to ask!

Although a gutter replacement may seem like a hit to your savings account, it's safe to say that avoiding the problem will hurt you and your home even more in the long run from repairs due to moisture damage.

2. Price - Range

As mentioned above, you really do get what you pay for, and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. On average, you can expect to pay between $1,500 - $3,500 for the standard home. Some gutter companies choose to charge you per foot, while others charge you for the project as a whole. Neither route is necessarily better than the other; just a different approach.

3. Cost Breakdown

There are many factors that can affect the cost of gutter replacement for your new gutters. Hiring a gutter contractor to do the work for you is highly advised, if you want the job done right and to save yourself the hassle.

  • Materials- The more durable your material, the higher your bill will be. You can read about the pro's & con's of the four major choices, here.

  • Gutter Type- Sectional vs. Seamless. Seamless gutters have fewer leaks, are more reliable, and require less maintenance, but they do cost more. Get their comparison, in this blog.

  • Labor Costs- When hiring a professional, budget more than you would for a beginner in the field or a DIY project.

  • Experience- Keep in mind that the higher the cost, the more likely it is that they are an experienced and reputable company that isn't scared to stand behind their work. How do you know that they are the real deal? They'll offer a guarantee or warranty for their work.

  • Size of Home- The bigger the home, the more materials and labor is required, so budget accordingly.

  • Gutter Accessories/ Enhancements- Products such as gutter guards, heating cables, leaf catchers, splash guards, rain chains, etc. all contribute to an effectively functioning gutter system, but will increase the price due to material and additional labor costs. Ask your gutter specialist how you can benefit from having any of these, as well as if they offer any kind of combo deal if you purchase them along with your new gutters. Might as well go all the way, right?

Additional Considerations: > > > Not all gutter contractors are created equal < < <

Ask how much experience your gutter contractor has had prior to hiring them, and make sure to check reviews.

Keep in mind that being Jack of all trades but master of none isn't the best option when hiring a gutter contractor. Opt for a gutter specialist who specializes in gutters alone, rather than a general contractor (GC) that offers a wide array of exterior services. A gutter specialist might be slightly more expensive than a GC, but is a specialist nonetheless, and will be your best bet in terms of skill and expertise level, as well as your quality of care.

When it comes to the infrastructure of your home, you want to make sure you protect your assets and have the peace of mind by making sure you're getting the job done right.
